Ophthalmologist deals with the examination of the eye, its treatment, correction of sight defects and prophylactic activity. The specialist performs eye examinations using specialized ophthalmic devices and test panels. Thanks to this, he diagnoses eye and optic nerve disease, determines the course of treatment, which he then supervises. He also conducts eyesight rehabilitation. If necessary, he collects biological material for specialist tests (histological, biochemical, etc.).
In the event of eye defects, choose appropriate glasses, contact lenses or other visual aids to correct the defects or stop their further progress. An ophthalmologist directs patients to surgery, such as removal of glaucoma or corneal transplantation. In the case of removal of the eyeball, the ophthalmologist deals with the prosthesis.
